Wednesday 15th June. Protection Island

Looked like it wouldn’t rain till later so time for a visit to Protection Island just off Nanaimo.

View of Nanaimo from the ferry
Heronry minus the herons
Didn’t remember there being so many steps – 79
Some really beautiful houses on this island

Not so sure about some of these means of transport though

Wouldn’t mind this though now that Paul’s qualified to fly one!
Goat yoga anyone?
Paul making friends with one of the residents
Another resident not so inviting

And  now some birds

White crowned sparrow
Hummingbird
Bewicks wren

And a few of a Pileated Woodpecker

Looks like there might be some food in that house over there
Whoops, not very stable
Any food inside?
Underneath?
No. Better look elsewhere.
Not sure this looks any better!
Black squirrel. Much nicer than our greys. They do have red here as well
Campsite is busy now on Saysutshun/Newcastle Island

As we were heading down to the Dinghy Dock pub for lunch spotted this fella digging for his lunch.

Fascinating to watch them

Nanaimo from our table with the ferry in the background

Then coffee in the harbour before tea and cake with Jeannie and then home before the rain.
