Banff/Lake Louise

After our normal (and very healthy breakfast) we took the 1a to Lake Louise. Maligne Lake still not open. We’ve been here 3 times and it’s always been closed – thought it might be open this year as the weather had been so glorious. Still we did our usual walk to the end of Lake Louise and actually managed to go further than we had before but the path got more slippy on the ice as we went further up. It did mean that Paul got to show the youngsters how to do the climbing – he just can’t help himself, he just has to join in!

We had a tea at Lake Louise Village and then joined the 1a again to drive back to Banff. A much more productive journey this time as we saw our first grizzly. I got out to photograph it and it then ran straight for me – it really just wanted to cross the road but Paul got quite worried it was heading for me!

We ended our time in Banff at our usual pub – only a sleeve and a pint this time!

Banff 13.05.16

After a good night’s sleep felt much better and ready to face the world. Started the day with coffee and a pastry sitting outside a coffee shop on Banff Ave – bliss. Then went on a three and a half hour walk along the Bow River. Didn’t see a tremendous amount of wildlife but we hopefully had a taste of things to come. After a quick cup of tea in our cabin drove out to Lake Minnewanke (no, it’s pronounced Minnewonka!) and went for a cruise around the lake. We’ve been here three times and this is the first time it hasn’t been frozen over. The crew were really enthusiastic and we saw a plastic replica of a grizzly paw. Apparently there is a grizzly that is often seen between the upper hot springs and Lake Louise – after seeing the size of that paw we definitely won’t be going on that path!

Tea was two”app y’s” sitting outside at our local overlooking Banff Ave. We went because the Appys were half price but then spent more on the beers. Oh well, at least we managed to try 5 different ones!
