21.06.16 Port Alberni/Beachcomber

What a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and we did one of our favourite walks in Port Alberni and then had lunch in the Clam Bucket. Decided to pop in to see the Eagles before going home and I’m so glad we did eye put on a show for us followed by another put on by Mummy Merganser and her ducklings. Didn’t think the Eagles were going to do anything but mum eventually appeared, junior popped his head up and then daddy brought something to eat. Then he kept coming back with more! Incredible. The mum then spent a while feeding the baby – although he looks as big as his parents and certainly big enough to feed himself! Mum must have then sent dad out for new bedding as he then appeared with a tree branch and spent a while repairing part of the nest.

We then watched a merganser mum trying to control her brood of ducklings and show them how to fish. It was hilarious as they kept running on top of the water. We just couldn’t stop laughing. We were joined in the shows by Jeannie and her dog. She was really lovely and I’m hoping we meet again before we leave the area.

  1. Was a delight to meet you last night! Brynn and I so enjoyed sharing the afternoon with you! Weren’t the Merganzer babies funny! As always, the Eagles fascinate me and what a gift to watch this baby grow! Great pictures, Gill! The other eagle looks like a young Bald, or could be an Ospery, although I am leaning more toward the young Baldie…takes them about four or five years to come into their mature colours. Enjoy the rest of your holiday! Hope to see you again before you head off on more adventures! Jeannie and Brynn

    1. Was hoping you’d have an opinion on what these other two birds in Port Alberni were! Glad I got a pic of Brynn. Not seen the jellyfish – too busy looking at the Eagles, seals and Mergansers!
Hope to see you again this week.
